An article in The Standard, (via a Google Alert) indicates that you have an interest in things that go bang. Of particular interest to the ANMM is the statement in the article:

'Re-enactment groups will still visit at Easter, May and November to fire the old cannon during Flagstaff festivals.'

Are they proper firings, ie, real black powder, etc, or are they pretend firings. If they are real, how did you go about certifying/proof testing the cannon?

At the ANMM we have a number of replica cannon that were manufactured for the HMB Endeavour replica which we believe were designed and manufactured to be fired. We would like to continue to fire them.

However, there is now no record of the design and manufacturer's certification, (lost or misplaced during the transfer of the ship from the Foundation to the ANMM).

Accordingly we need to back engineer and proof test them and would appreciate any information from others who may have followed a similar process.
