Event Description

Event Description: Bay steamers - bringing visitors "Down the Bay to Take the Waters at Queenscliff"

From the late 1890s until the 1920s the bay steamers Ozone, Hygeia and Weeroona carried passengers and cargo "Down the Bay" to Queenscliff. This small town at the entrance to Port Phillip, with its sea baths, parks, grand hotels and guest houses, was renowned as the "Queen of Watering Holes". Thousands of passengers travelled by water to Queenscliff each year to "Take the Waters".
