The theme of this Workshop was centered on the next AMMC/ANMM Travelling Exhibition,

Australians and their Boats

The Workshop featured plenty of opportunities to have input into the exhibition, with delegate interaction and participation, as well as learning about writing for a exhibitions.

Writing for Exhibitions: 

What Floats Your Boat - Remarkable Stories of Australian's and Their Vessels. 

  • The next AMMC / ANMM travelling panel exhibition is being developed / co-curated by the AMMC members. 
  • Sabina Escobar - Temporary and Touring Exhibitions Officer at the Australian National Maritime Museum is the Project Manager for this exhibition.  Read her presentation here: Story Submissions / Images and Copyright / Project Overview

Hobart is always busy in February in the run-up to the Australian Wooden Boat Festival, so to keep delegate costs down the Workshop began at lunchtime on Thursday 7 February and ran through until midday on Friday 8 February, in time to catch the Parade of Sail which launched the Wooden Boat Festival. What better time to focus on Australians and their boats!

Day 1: Thursday 7 February 2019

  • 12:00–12:30: Registration & tea / coffee 
  • 12:30–13:00: Lunch 
  • 13:00-13:30: Welcome & update on AMMC activities program and handover to new President of AMMC
    Alan Edenborough – President AMMC: Sydney Heritage Fleet
    Mesh Thomson – New President AMMC; Port of Echuca Discovery Center.
  • 13:30 -13:45: Session 1: Setting the scene – the success of Submerged and continuing to creating a small bank of travelling exhibitions as an AMMC/ANMM project.

  • 13:45 – 17:00: Australians and Their Boats (includes afternoon tea)
    Writing for a Target Audience – practical workshop

Thursday evening: Optional Dinner (an additional ticket at $75 pp) at Mac01's 'Old Wharf Restaurant

  • 9:00-09:15: Re-group – intro to the day 
  • 9:15 – 9:30: Session 2: Results of the survey on the title of the travelling exhibition

Friday afternoon to Monday 11 February: Australian Wooden Boat Festival 2019

The delegate was kept low, and simply covered the costs of the event. The Workshop fee of $45 per person including, morning and afternoon teas and lunches on Thursday and Friday.  There was also an Optional Dinner fee of $75 per person.
